developing personal gun dogs that will
make you proud
Owner/Trainer Wayne Down
Wayne has
more than 30 years of dog training
experience with all pointing breeds, but
has specialized in Brittanys for the
past 15 years. Wayne uses a
hands-on personal approach with each
dog, in order to develop a strategy for
individual success. He cares for
100% of your dogs needs, including
feeding, kennel cleaning, health care,
and training. He strives to make
sure that your dog is cared for in the
same manner that he would be at home.
Training grounds and Facilities
We are
located in the Tehachapi Mountains
approximately 150 miles north of Los
Angeles and 50 miles east of
Bakersfield. Our facility is at
4500 feet of elevation and we are
surrounded by 1000 acres of native
valley quail habitat that we use for
training. Each dog has a covered
and secure concrete kennel with his own
dog house.
Training
Wayne
uses a hands-on approach that helps a
dog develop his own natural instincts in
the training process. Initial bird
work is done on pen raised birds, but
the dog is quickly transitioned onto
WILD VALLEY QUAIL. The wild birds are
the key to a successful training
program. Few trainers have access
to such a large population of wild quail
to train dogs. The first month of
training is focused on socialization and
building a bond, followed by a thorough
evaluation and finally goal setting.
This approach allows Wayne the
opportunity to see what is possible with
your dog, and then he develops a
successful plan of action to achieve
these goals. He will teach your dog to
whoa, handle in the field, point and
hold birds, back, and to be a natural
retriever.
Field Trialing
Wayne
attends in excess of 14 field trials per
year between the White Mountains of
Arizona and the High desert of Western Washington. He
focuses on developing a dog with style,
class, endurance, and bird finding
ability. Wayne has a multi-pronged
approach to his field trial string; he
handles puppies, derbies, gun dogs, and
all age dogs. He will gladly take
your dog for evaluation and then provide
feed back as to the potential of your
dog. Wayne does provide a
separate rate and fee structure for the
dogs that are being campaigned on his
field trail string.
Owners
Bluewater
Brittanys believes strongly that the
dog’s owner is the key member of the
training team. Wayne encourages
all of his owners to come and spend time
with him in the field; this allows him
to teach you how to handle your dog more
effectively and how to correct your dog
to keep him at his best.
Please
contact us to discuss what we can do for
you and your dog. We currently
have openings in our summer gun dog
training program and on our field trial
string. In addition we offer a 2 month
tune up for your trained dog to make
sure that he is ready to perform for you
during the hunting season. We are
leaving for summer camp in the White
mountains of Arizona around Aug. 8th
and will return the last week of August.
Please call for current rates and fees
for our services.
We look
forward to working with you and your dog
to help you reach your goals.
